Peace Corps Experience:

Vanuatu

Welcome to Vanuatu!

I have created this site to introduce you to both the South Pacific experience, as well as a day in the life of a Peace Corps Volunteer. I have been in-country for over a year and a half now and have fallen in love with my life here. Vanuatu is a small island country located just northeast of Australia. With Fiji as its closest neighbor, Vanuatu lies in the south western Pacific Ocean. To the average tourist or brief observer, it is, without question, a tropical paradise. To many a volunteer, it is that, but too, a treasure chest of wonderful memories, frustrations, experiences, and growth. In most places around the country, Vanuatu denotes not just another world, but also a different day and age. In many ways, the people (Ni-Vanuatu) are still living life the way we were intended to live; the life that was reality before gas fireplaces, talking toilets, automatic faucets, mp3 player sunglasses, Costco, and “my space.” Much as I enjoy all of the above, I am most appreciative of discovering a different life. And… it would be my pleasure to show you around. Continue...
